This Privacy Policy explains how AI Lecture Recorder ("we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use the AI Lecture Recorder mobile app ("App").

1. Information We Collect
We designed the App to be local-first. In normal use, the App stores your recordings and related content on your device.
The App may handle the following information:
- Voice recordings you create in the App
- Bookmarks, labels, notes, and transcription text associated with your recordings
- App preferences, such as language selection
- Your Groq API key, if you choose to enable AI transcription
2. How We Use Information
We use the information in the App to:
- Record and play audio
- Save recordings, bookmarks, notes, and transcriptions on your device
- Display your library and recording details
- Provide optional AI transcription
- Remember your app preferences, such as language
3. Local Storage
Recordings, bookmarks, notes, transcription text, and app preferences are stored locally on your device using the app's storage features.
We do not create user accounts, and we do not intentionally store your recordings on our servers.
4. Optional AI Transcription
If you enable AI transcription, the App sends the selected audio file to Groq's transcription service using the Groq API key that you provide.
In that case:
- The audio file is sent directly from your device to Groq
- Groq returns the transcription text
- The transcription text is then stored on your device in the App
We do not receive or store your Groq API key on our servers.
Groq may process data according to its own terms and privacy practices. Please review Groq's privacy policy for more information.
5. Permissions
The App may request the following permissions:
- Microphone access, so you can record audio
- Notifications, if enabled by your device or app settings
You can deny permissions, but some features may not work properly without them.
6. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not use the App to knowingly collect:
- Advertising identifiers
- Analytics data
- Location data
- Contact lists
- Photos or camera data
- Payment information
We also do not sell your personal information.
7. Third-Party Services
The App may use the following third-party services:
- Groq, for optional transcription
- Platform services provided by Apple, Google, and Expo-related tooling needed to run the App
These services may have their own privacy policies and terms.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Because your content is stored on your device, you can remove it by:
- Deleting recordings or notes inside the App
- Clearing the App's local storage
- Uninstalling the App
If you delete the App, the locally stored content on that device may be removed.
9. Children’s Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information handled by the App. However, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above.
